24 maio 2019, 16:05 - Fátima Jacinto

No âmbito do Ciclo de Seminários do CEG-IST temos o prazer de anunciar a realização do seguinte Seminário:

Data: 29 de maio de 2019 – 14:30-15:30

Local: Sala de Reuniões do DEG Alameda

Palestrante: PROF. ARTURO SANCHEZ CARMONA

Título: BIOETHANOL IN MÉXICO, ITS USE IN THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR AND THE ROLE OF THE BIOALCOHOLS CONSORTIUM

RESUMO/ABSTRACT: This presentation discusses the current situation in Mexico regarding the use of renewable fuels in the auto transport sector. The Bioalcohols Consortium will be introduced in the talk as part of the Mexican response to the COP-21 commitments. The objective of this Consortium, funded by the Mexican Secretary of Energy, is to bridge the technological gap and speedup the production of advanced biofuels for the auto transport sector in Mexico. The presentation will show the status of the technology under development in the Consortium and what are the challenges to achieve the production of advance biofuels for the Mexican market.

SHORT BIO: B. Sc. Chem. Eng. and Admin. (1985 ITESO, México). M. Eng. Chem. Eng.

(UAM, México, 1989). PhD. (Imperial College, 1994 Newitt and Armstrong prizes for best doctoral dissertation of the year).

Member of the National Scientist System since 1996, registered technology consultant in Mexico since 1999 and a member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering.

Arturo trained as a process engineer in the early 80s at the Department of Process Technology of Arancia Grupo Industrial, mainly in corn transformation processes. He has been an academic visitor at the Department of Computing of Imperial College, London, UK, in the Applied Mathematics Group of the Mexican Petroleum Institute and at the Department of Engineering Sciences of University of Oxford, UK.

His scientific and engineering interests are related to advanced biofuels and formal development of automated industrial systems, topics in which he has produced more than 140 publications and one patent and has graduated around 40 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.

He currently works as a senior scientist at the Centre for Advance Studies in Guadalajara, Mexico where he is the head of the Bioenergy Futures Laboratory. He is also the research manager of the Bioalcohols Consortium of the Mexican Centre on Bioenergy Innovation, an initiative funded by the Secretary of Energy whose objective is to establish in the short term the technological bases in México to produce advanced biofuels from lignocellulosic materials.

In the industrial sector, Arturo has been a process-engineering consultant in Mexico and the US for more than 25 years. He also developed and successfully commercialized a manufacturing execution system that is currently employed in the food retail and construction sectors in Mexico.

Os Seminários do CEG-IST são abertos a todos.
