Title: Improvements in Formula Student Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor design by changing core material

The Permanent Magnets Synchronous motors' basic operation will be discussed along with the challenges faced when designing them. Some focus will be given to the permanent magnet and magnetic core materials. A motor designed for a Formula Student competition vehicle is presented as an example. Also, to investigate the impact of changing core material on the machine, an equivalent one is designed with Vanadium-Cobalt alloy core instead of traditional Electrical steel. Finally, considerations on volume/weight and torque density are drawn.
