EXAM INFO FOR TODAY

Dear all, 


The exam will take place at 18H30 in the main building.
Here are the instructions for the exam:

1 -  the exam will last 2 hours for the ones that are answering questions I, II and III and an aditional 30m for those of you answering question IV (which can be repaced by the MOOC).

2 - You can bring one sheet (2 pages) with formulas and calculator to the exam. Mobile phones have to be stored in bags during the exam. You can bring white sheets. 

3 - The exam will be answered in the IST exam sheet.

4 - Please answer each group in a separated sheet.

5 - The MeMEC students should go to rooms C01 and GA1

6 - The MEGE students and other courses should go to rooms C12 and C13 (1st floor)

7 - The students that will answer question 4 (regardless of the course), should go to room C09

8 - Please try to be in the rooms at 18H15, so we can make sure everybody is ready to start at 18H30.

9 - Students that are not registered should go to C09 and wait at the door

Extra class for exam preparation

Dear all,


Today, monday 15th 2017, there will be another class for exam preparation:

 1) in meeting room 2.43 (Pav. Mec. I, 1st floor) at 14h (energy balance, block diagrams, SGCIE and exergy efficiency) 

 2) in room V1.14, starting at 15H. To make the class more systematic and fruitfull for all,  bring a list of exercises where you have questions. I will go systematically through all the questions to everyboday (class 1 to 11 and then exams of last year)

Dear all, next friday, an extra class regarding the preparation of the exam will be held in V1.10, from 15 to 17.

Energy Management - Exam registration and general info

The first exam will take place on January 16th, from 18H30 to 21H00. regarding the exam, here is the generla information:

1 - Please register in the xam until January 12th 2018. If you are not registered, i cannot guarantee that you can make the exam. I need to find colleagues to be presented in the multiple rooms, i need ot print exams, so it is MANDATORY to register.

2 - The xam will last 2H30 and it will have 4 questions. For those of you that want to use the MOOC grade, you will have to answer questiosn 1 to 3 and your exam will last only for 2H. If you stay longer than this, the MOOC grade will not be considered.

3 - Questions 1 to 3 will cover the topics of energy management in general (energy balance, sankey diagrams, energy prices, energy efficiency projects evauation), energy management in industry and enegry management in transportation.

4 - Question 4 (which can be replaced by the MOOC) will cover the topic of energy services and management in buildings

5 - For the exam, you can bring 1 sheet/2 pages of formulas, but not solved diagrams. 

6 - You should also bring a calculator, the ue of mobile phone will not be allowed. On the exam desk, you are only allowed to have your own formulaire, the calculator and a pen to answer the exam. A couple of white pages for drafts are allowed.

To prepare for the exams, review all the problems classes and the exams from last year (older exams may not be a good reference)

Energy Management - Evaluation from MOOC, LAB 1 and LAB 2

Dear all, 
I would like to wish you all a great new year and all the luck for the exam season that is starting. 
Please find the grades of the MOOC and Lab activities in the following link

These grades are not final and i would like to stress the following points:
  1. The grades are not yet final, which means that i can review the grades. 
  2. The review of the grades of the MOOC and LABs will be done together with the revision of the exam.
  3. However, if there is a significant mistake (like your grade is missing or is not the same to the one in the platform), please send me an email immediatly. 
  4. Regarding the MOOCs, some of you have complained about the final evaluation. I have tried to address al lthe cases, but i might have forgot to address a few, lost in the emails. In general, i would say i did not find any particular mistake in the evaluation. 
  5. Regarding the LAB1, please find an example of results in the filehttps://fenix.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/downloadFile/845043405457985/EMLab1_MeasurmentProtocol2017_final_withanswers.pdf
  6. The LABs were corrected automatically (except for the justification answers), after cleaning your answers from typos, and the generic rules were:
    • For those of you that submmited more than once, i only considered the first submission. In 80% of the cases, the grade was better after your first submission than after the correction
    • In some cases, the answers were exactly the same. For the justification answer, i did not consider answers that were excatly the same (so everybody with the same text had 0 in this question).
    • The web form had a type reagrding the power of the LED E27 lamp (it as 14 W and not 21 W). In any cae, i considered both answers.
    • Those of you that only considered one lamp in the T8 fixture, i considered 50% of the response. I believe the guide was clear and the webform.
    • All the measurments were accepted within a certain interval
  8. Remember that the LAB can only improve your grade, so if the result was not as good as you expected, don´t worry, it will not decrease your exam grade.
  9. The average grade of the MOOC was 87% and the average grade of the LAB1 was 72%.

I would like to thank you for participating in the activities, i hope you have learned and enjoy and prepare yourself for the exam. On January 12th and January 15th in the afternoon i will do a class to answer all your questions.
