MAS/ME extra class Friday 9th October (12:30-14:00)

8 outubro 2020, 01:07 Marta Castilho Gomes

Dear PhD Students,

On Tuesday this week the MAS/ME online practical class could not take place because, unlike the first two weeks of the semester, the Internet connection was not working in Q4.1 room. I am sorry for this and can tell you that the problem was immediately reported after class so it can be fixed for next week.

Therefore, I scheduled an extra MAS/ME online practical class for next Friday, 9th of October from 12:30 to 14:00. The link to this class is available in Fenix, section “Links to Colibri/Zoom sessions”.

In the class Descriptive Statistics exercise 1.2 will be concluded.

I would like to add that this is the timeslot available in the 5th year MSc timetable between two optional courses on Friday: Econ from 9:00 to 12:30 and GRSol from 14:00 to 17:30. Another option would be to schedule the class the same day from 17:30 to 19:00, which seemed worse since it is much later in the day.

See you on Friday if you were not in the Tuesday class (I hope you are available).

Best regards

Marta Gomes

Modelação Estatística / Statistical Modelling (ME) classes

21 setembro 2020, 12:20 Rui Manuel Moura de Carvalho Oliveira

The ME classes start today, jointly with the System´s Modelling and Evaluation (MAS) course of the 5th year of the MSc programme in Civil Engineering.

The 1st class (13:30-15:00) is in room V1.10 and is dedicated to an introduction to both courses. The 2nd class (15-16:30) is in room V0.04 and is dedicated to reviewing basic concepts of data analysis and Descriptive Statistics. These topics will continue to be addressed in tomorrow’s MAS class (13:30-15:00, in room Q4.1) and PhD students are also invited to attend this lecture.

Colibri/Zoom sessions were created so that students can attend these classes remotely. The links to these Colibri/Zoom sessions are available in Fenix, section “Links to Colibri/Zoom sessions” (and were sent by mail to students that do not have access to Fenix yet).

Modelação Estatística / Statistical Modelling (ME) classes

18 setembro 2020, 16:01 Rui Manuel Moura de Carvalho Oliveira

As indicated in the syllabus of the Modelação Estatística / Statistical Modelling (ME) course (available in Fenix), PhD students are strongly advised to attend classes (at least theoretical classes) of the curricular unit System´s Modelling and Evaluation (MAS) of the 5th year of the MSc programme in Civil Engineering dedicated to reviewing basic concepts of Probability and Statistics and to the introduction to multivariate statistical methods which take place in the first half of the semester.

These MAS classes start this Monday, September 21st, according to the schedule indicated in the syllabus (and posted in Fenix). All classes will be lectured in English.

We tend to favor face-to-face classes, provided that the capacity of the classrooms (revised in face of the restrictions associated with Covid-19) allows to accommodate the students who attend them. However, Colibri/Zoom sessions are created so that students can attend these classes remotely (and these will probably be recorded and the corresponding videos made available to students).

The links to these Colibri/Zoom sessions are available in Fenix, section “Links to Colibri/Zoom sessions”.

It would be very useful if students send an email stating whether they intend to attend these face-to-face classes or if they prefer to attend them remotely (via Colibri/Zoom). Please send this email (to (roliv@tecnico.ulisboa.pt) at your earliest convenience (before Monday, please).

Copies of the PP slides to be used in the initial classes are available in Fenix (section “Theoretical classes’ materials”) an others will be made available as classes progress.

The ME teaching team salutes all ME students and we will do our best to make the attendance of this course a fruitful and rewarding experience.
