Final exam (extraordinary)

2 fevereiro 2022, 19:05 Hugo Terças

Dear Students,

The extraordinary exam ("recurso") will take place on the

                                                                           23rd February (QA1.4, 15h30).

Notice that this is not a mandatory evaluation element (except if you fail to approve in the regular evaluation scheme), but you can use it to improve the classification in one of the Homeworks (or both).

The exam will have the duration of 2 hours, with the first (second) hour being devoted to the first (second) half-part of the program. As such, if you plan to recover one of the Homeworks only, you should leave after the first hour; otherwise, you will be considered for a full homework recovery (HW1 and HW2).

The combination resulting in the best mark will be considered (Homeworks + CP, or Exam + CP).

Further relevant instructions will be given to you at the day of the exam.

Best regards,
Hugo Terças.

Presentation of the computer projects

2 fevereiro 2022, 18:58 Hugo Terças

Dear students,

The presentation of the computer projects (CPs) is due to

                                                                                    18th February, from 10 - 12 am.

(The venue is yet to be decided - probably in the meeting room of the Physics Department (?), but I hope it will happen in a hybrid way (as some colleagues will be abroad. The zoom link is https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/u/kv5sRQuAE )

Each group will perform a 25 min to presentation (+10 min questions from the evaluation panel, composed by the UC lecturers and some external members). The following aspects will be evaluated during your presentation:

1. Physical motivation and context
2. Scientific, technical and language rigor
3. Clarity and quality of the presentation (pay attention to the quality of your plots!)
4. Distribution between the members of the group
5. Post-treatment of the simulation data
6. Conclusions and implications of the work
7. Quality of the computational codes

The computer codes and a physical copy (.pdf) of the presentation are to be sent to me by email after the presentation (until the end of the day).

Best regards,

Hugo Terças.

Marks (Homework #1)

Problem Set #1

15 dezembro 2021, 02:38 Hugo Terças

Dear students,

The Problem Set #1 (counting 25% of the grading) will be made available at the section "Homeworks", on Dec 15, 6pm. You should return your solutions by Dec 29, 23h59m, by mail.

Remember that the idea is for you to show me what you really understand about plasmas! Avoid the temptation of copying calculations from books or papers! Remember that you must carefully justify your answers (I will notice if you play dirty...)

Best regards,

Hugo Terças.
