Information regarding the oral presentations starting next friday

Dear students

The oral presentations of Environmental Biotechnology will start next Friday and are an integral part of the learning process. Therefore you should attend to the three oral presentation sessions.
We invite you to participate in the discussion after each presentation and also to contribute with your opinion about it; for the latter, you have a Word file entitled  “Evaluation form_from the students_oral presentation” in the Environ Biotechnol webpage (section “Part 1 - Oral presentations”), where you can give your opinion about each oral presentation you attended to; the “evaluation form” should be returned to me by email until the 21th of April (deadline for news-article submission); you can also find the complete list of the presentations, in the same section.

List of questions (& answers) about EB– Part 1

Dear students

A list of examples of questions focused on Part 1 of the course is provided in the course webpage (section “Part 1-Lectures”) viewing you to test your understanding of the subjects (most of them are questions that appeared in previous exams). Possible answers to the questions are also provided; I advise you to study the subjects in the support texts provided and in the powerpoints and your appointments of the lectures and try to answer to the questions, before looking at the answers provided.

In case you have doubts, please contact me by email or you can meet me in the Tuesday and Wednesday Zoom sessions (up to 14-4-2021) or we can arrange other individual Zoom sessions if requested by you (by email).

Marquei sessões Zoom para esclarecimento de dúvidas e dar apoio na análise do paper e preparação das apresentações orais e artigos-notícia, nos periodos indicados abaixo (até 14-4-2021). Estarei também disponível para marcar sessões Zoom individuais em outros períodos que sejam mais convenientes e para esclarecer dúvidas por email.

Informations on lecture and assessment activities of Part 1 of Environmental Biotechnology

Dear students

Wellcome to Environmental Biotechnology course.

The Part 1 of Environmental Biotechnology (EB) course will start tomorrow, thursday, at 14.30h.

The Zoom links for the Thursday and Friday classes of EB-Part 1 are available in the section “Part 1 - Planning and Lectures”. Here you can also find the detailed planning of EB-Part1, PDFs of the lecture presentations and the links to the videos used or referred during the lectures (in the front page of the same section).

- Regarding the oral presentations and news-articles (assessment in the midle of the semester) based on offered scientific papers focused no EB-Part 1 sylabus,  the instructions for the selection of a paper by each working team (group of 3 students) and its registration in the google table, the PDFs of the papers and the guidelines for the analysis of the paper and preparation of oral presentations and news-articles, are available in the section “Part 1 - Oral presentations and News-article”. Tomorrow, we will speak further about these.

- Other materials (e.g. reading support texts and further reading – optional but relevant – texts) are also available in this EB webpage (in Fénix).

- Please be aware that the EB webpage can be actualized each week with further materials.

- Communication between the teachers and the students will occur mainly through this EB-webpage and by email. For any questions regarding EB-Part 1, you can contact me by email, and you will have the answers the same way, from Monday to Friday each week, with no fixed office hours (unless otherwise indicated). We can also arrange individual Zoom sessions upon your request (by email).

- GoogleClassroom will be also used in some circunstances (e.g. to deliver works to the teachers). Therefore, for the ones that didn’t activate their GSuite account yet (at least 5 students are missing in the Google Classroom), please do it soon. For that, you should follow the instructions in https://si.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/en/servicos/servicos-externos/google-suite-for-education/ , using your IST Fénix credentials.
