1. Main EU institutions relevant for adpting and implementing EU Environmental Policies: The Parliament, the Council, and the Commission;

2. Other EU institutions relevant for Environmental Policies, notably the Court of Justice, the European Central bank and the European Investment Bank, the Economic and Social Committee, and the Committee of the Regions;
3. Evolution of the EU since the first treaties, namely the treaty on coal and steel and EURATOM in 1951, until the Lisbon Treaty in 2008, creating formally the European Union;
4. First generation of environment Directives (in the 70's and the 80's), second generation in the early 90's, and third generation (since the mid-90's);
5. EU environmental strategic documents with emphasis on the Environment Action Programmes (EAP), from the first in 1973 until the 7th in 2013; current preparation of the 8th EAP;
6. Three EU Directives of utmost importance for environmental policies: Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA), Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), and Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC); Brief description of these three Directives.
