Aims

Personal development:  To achieve an in-depth understanding of a research paper.  To be able to summarize and organize learned concepts and ideas and convey them via a short oral presentation.  To develop collaboration skills intra- and inter- groups, in order to achieve common benefits.

Functioning of the course:  To participate in the lecture of topics within Software Security program, that will assist fellow students in their study.

Format

There will be 3 classes, each consisting of student group presentations of 10-15 mins of papers on a predefined topic.  The presentation time has to be evenly distributed among the members of the group.  Groups that are presenting within the same class should synchronize the contents of the individual presentations, in order for the overall class to be as cohesive as possible.  The presentation consists of three components:

  1. The oral presentation itself.
  2. The class in which the presentation is inserted.
  3. The slides.

NB: The content of these 3 classes will be evaluated in the 2nd test of the course.

Papers

Topics for the presentation classes and corresponding papers can be found here.

Grading

The presentations will be evaluated individually, as well as with respect to the consistency of the entire class (15%), according to the following criteria:

  • Quality of slides - structure of the slides, clarity and readability of each slide, conveying of the key ideas
  • Content - relevance of covered content, with appropriate highlight to the most important ideas
  • Depth - understanding of the topic that is presented
  • Originality - detachment from words used in cited materials
  • Structure of the class - the entire class should present an introduction to the topic, point to appropriate study materials, open problems and research topics for future work
  • Fluency - chaining of the presentations of each topic.  It is suggested that all presentations are made using the same computer, in order to minimize interruption between presentations.

All sources for the slides material should be adequately cited.  Plagiarism will be punished according to the rules of the School.
