The time-frequency transform brought new advances in spectral analysis, namely by providing the time information lost in traditional Fourier Transform or its fast discrete version (FFT). The limitations of the tradeoff imposed by STFT can be reduced by a variable time/frequency resolution or multi-resolution proposal provided by the wavelet transform (WT).
