We defined the concepts of local solution and global solution. 

We defined convex functions and proved that convex functions are free of local solutions (more precisely, any local solution is automatically global). This is a simple yet powerful result in optimization.

We started to build a "database" of simple convex functions by showing that affine functions are convex.
