Dear students of Hydrodynamics 2020,

Due to restrictions to the normal functioning of the courses at IST which will proceed, for the time being, only with remote learning activities, the Hydrodynamics course adopts the following changes:

Classes:

The classes will be given remotely by the professors/instructors with the help of the Zoom System. The students are invited to join the class with a specific link sent by mail and/or posted in the course page. A test to such type of classes has already been made on Wednesday, March 11th.

The timetable for the remote classes is the same of the normal classes published in the Fenix system. The classes will start on March 18th.

The summaries of the classes will be published in the Fenix system

If used, the slides (power point presentations or other material) will be published in the Fenix system, preferably before the class.

Recovery of the missing classes between 11th and 18th March will be planned to the end of the semester. This may be reviewed and modified if needed.

Problem solving classes:

In the classes given remotely by the professors/instructors with the help of the Zoom System there will be problems to be solved. The solution of the exercises proposed to the students will be covered with opportunities to clarify doubts with the chat system or directly when possible.

Laboratory class:

The test of an airfoil in the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics scheduled to the months of May requires the access to the IST premises. As long as the IST campus stays interdicted to the students this will not be possible.

At a later stage it will be seen if the students may receive the results of the test and will be asked to analyse the results in groups. In that event, students will be asked to discuss the work with the professor/instructor online with the help of the Zoom system or an alternative system (Skype or other). A time table for these activities will be published in due time. Please follow this development in the course page of the Fenix system.

Doubts schedule:

There will be a doubts remote session schedule which will be published by the corresponding professor/instructor in the course page. The format will be same as a meeting with the Zoom system with opportunity to put questions and clarify doubts as in a problem solving class. Please check the course page and/or e-mail.

Unless permitted by the specific professor/instructor in charge of the course chapter, there will be no doubts on the course material clarified by e-mail.

Evaluation:

All the Tests with the students present in a room are suspended until the end of May.

If access conditions to the campus will permit and the suspension of tests is lifted, a written final test (combination of all the tests replacing them with the same total weight) at the beginning of June is being considered as replacing option.

If the laboratory test has been carried out, the on-line discussion of the work with the Zoom system or an alternative system (Skype or other) will be evaluated.

If all the evaluation items have been completed by the end of the semester the final mark will keep the same structure (weights) as foreseen (see course info). Otherwise, changes will be introduced and posted in due time.

Please check regularly the course page and e-mail.
