 Equilibrium binary phase diagrams (continuation);  the phase rule and temperature versus time cooling curves.  The Stefan (or moving boundary) problem and phase equilibria in capsules containing phase change materials.

In the second part of the class, Dr. Carlos Nogueira gave a presentation about "Molten nitrate salts containing lithium as thermal energy storage media: properties and stability".

Discussion of several points related to the subject of thermal energy storage, mainly about phase change materials (PCMs) and phase equilibrium. Discussion about the importance to improve the effective thermal conductivity of PCM or the heat transfer within encapsulated PCM.  Discussion of binary phase diagrams, with emphasis on solid-liquid equilibria and on the interpretation of cooling curves, on the basis of the Phase Rule..

In the 2nd part of the class, Eng. João Castanheira, CEO of Climaespaço, Engie, gave a presentation on "District Heating and Cooling".
