{en_GB=Vortex-Induced Vibration on a Spring-Mounted Cylinder - Linear and Non-Linear Analysis} {} EVALUATED
{pt=O presente estudo investiga as vibrações induzidas por vórtices num cilindro montado num sistema massa-mola e imerso num fluido incompressível, Newtoniano e viscoso, ao qual é permitido deslocar-se na direção ortogonal ao escoamento uniforme incidente. A pesquisa é feita a um regime de baixo número de Reynolds (15<Re<60), através de uma análise de estabilidade global linear e não-linear. O movimento do cilindro é sinusoidalmente imposto ou regido por uma equação do movimento livre. Os resultados do caso linear forçado são descritos em termos de impedância (rácio entre o coeficiente de sustentação e a velocidade do cilindro) e comparados com resultados de uma integração direta no tempo, obtendo uma boa correspondência. Uma investigação detalhada permitiu identificar três pontos de limiar de estabilidade, associados à transferência de energia cilindro-fluido e à aparição de turbilhões. Um argumento teórico, baseado num desenvolvimento assintótico é introduzido a fim de avaliar os movimentos forçado e livre e fornecer um critério de estabilidade baseado na impedância. No que concerne ao movimento livre, os resultados são obtidos através de uma análise de estabilidade linear, prevendo a estabilidade do estado de equilíbrio em função dos diferentes parâmetros. Em contrapartida, a análise não-linear é primeiramente levada a cabo num cilindro fixo, baseada nas abordagens fracamente não-linear e auto-consistente e comparada com as mais recentes investigações. Finalmente, é proposta uma nova abordagem no sentido de caracterizar o ciclo limite, denominada de abordagem harmonicamente equilibrada, levando a tempos de computação mais curtos e maior precisão, relativamente às abordagens supracitadas., en=The vortex-induced vibration of a spring-mounted, rigid circular cylinder, immersed in a Newtonian viscous incompressible flow and allowed to move in the direction orthogonal to the unperturbed flow is investigated in the low Reynolds regime (15<Re<60) by the means of a global linear and non-linear analysis. The motion is either sinusoidally imposed or governed by a model equation of the free motion. The results for the linear forced-case are described in terms of impedance (ratio between the vertical force coefficient and the cylinder velocity) and compared with a Direct Time Integration, yielding a good match. A detailed investigation allowed to identify three thresholds, associated to the energy transfer between the cylinder and the fluid and to the onset of the vortex-shedding. A theoretical argument, based on asymptotic developments, is introduced in order to rate the forced and free problems and to provide a stability criterion in terms of impedance. Regarding the freely moving cylinder, results are obtained with a linear stability analysis, predicting the steady state stability as function of the free motion parameters. On the other hand, the non-linear analysis is firstly carried out for the fixed-case cylinder, based on a weakly non-linear and a self-consistent approaches and compared with the more recent literature. A new approach towards the characterisation of the limit cycle, a harmonic balance technique, is proposed, leading to shorter computation times and more accuracy than the former ones. A theoretical extension of the harmonic balance method is presented for the free-case cylinder. }
