Prof. Murshed received his PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Nanyang Technological University Singapore ( ranks among the global TOP 20 in the QS World University Rankings®). Before joining here in Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico, he was a researcher and professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the same university (University of Lisbon) for several years. Previously, he also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and University of Central Florida (UCF), USA.
Prof. Murshed is enlisted in the rankings of World's Top 2% Scientists (both Career and single year of 2019 impact lists) that was published by Stanford University in late 2020. Notably, he was ranked 50th among 552 listed scientists from Portugal in the list for the impact of single year 2019.
Besides 10 books and 28 book-chapters he has so far authored/co-authored 160 scientific publications in leading international journals and conferences. Several of his papers have been classified as Highly Cited Papers by Web of Science (Essential Science Indicators). His current citation count is 6904 with h-index of 30 (Google Scholar).
He has served as an editor of-Journal of Nanofluids (American Scientific Publishers) from 2012-2020 and is currently an Associate Editor, Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer), guest editor of special issues of "Nanomaterials" (MDPI). He is also member of editorial board of several other international journals. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers (ASTFE) and European Thermoelectric Society (ETS). Prof Murshed was a management committee member nominated by FCT and a group leader of a European COST action (NanoUptake: 2016-2020). He is also a core team member of European commission's CIG project (NANOConVEX: 2020-2021). He is the PI of an ongoing project-"NanoCOM" funded by FCT, Portugal. He received the DUO-India Professor Fellowship Award 2020 (under ASEM-DUO Fellowship Program). He has regularly been serving as an expert evaluator for the European Commission and for funding agencies of different countries like The Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, Romania and so on. He also acts as an external reviewer for many international PhD theses like Imperial College London as well as about 40 international journals including numbers of top level ones like "Nature".
