Chemical Toxiclogy and Adductomics
My work is aimed at understanding the molecular basis of the toxic events induced by chemical agents from endogenous, environmental, drug, diet and occupational exposure sources. Anchored on the ability to synthesize biomarker standards and develop/validate sensitive analytical methodologies, focus have been placed on the development of synthetic and mass spectrometry-based methodologies for the use of covalent adducts formed with proteins (adductomics),directed towards:
1) Risk assessment of drugs used in chronic therapies (eg. anti-HIV drugs);
2) Development of early biomarkers of chemically-induced cancers;
3) Development of diagnosis tools of diseases induced by endogenous metabolites.
