J. Miguel Sanches (JS) is Full Professor at the Department of Bioengineering (DBE) from the IST. He’s coordinating the scientific area of Biomedical Systems and Biosignals and the Master and Doctoral Programs in Biomedical Engineering. He is a senior researcher and Deputy president for the scientific affairs of the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa).

His work has been focused in Biomedical Engineering (BME), namely, in biological and medical image processing and in statistical signal processing of physiological and behavioral data. Currently, JS is mainly working into two lines of research: developing new tools and methodological strategies to quantify and map molecular and morphometric pathologic cancer biomarkers and developing quantitative methods for diagnosis and developing quantitative methods for emotional and cognitive assessment in psychiatry.

JS published approximately 200 international publications (ORCID and Google Scholar) and  he is senior member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS).
