Welcome to the Turbomachinery course! 

Some useful informations:

First theoretical-Practical class will be held on the 18/11.

Programme:

•  Introduction
• Relative flow, Euler's and energy equations
•  Velocity triangles
• Axial flow turbomachines (turbines, compressors and fans)
• Design of wind turbines
• Radial flow turbomachines (turbines, centrifugal compressors and pumps)

• Two books will guide the faculty:
• • Principles of Turbomachinery, Seppo A. Korpela, Wiley, 2nd Edition (2019), ISBN: 978-1-119-51808-2
  • Fluid mechanics and thermodynamics of turbomachinery, S. L. Dixon, Butterworth-Heinemann, Seventh Edition, ISBN: 978-0-12-415954-9
• Complete solutions to the suggested exercises

Experimental work:

• Experimental tests using an axial flow turbine.

Numerical work:

• Design of an axial fan

What will you need to review from previous courses:

• Mass conservation principle, momentum, and energy balances
• Thermodynamic laws
• Equation of state
• You can look up the concepts in the Principles of Turbomachinery book in chapters 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4.
