Proposal of grades

29 abril 2023, 12:21 Francisco Melo

Dear students,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the long delay in the grading process for the course. As you may know, the student representative recently reached out to the PhD Program Coordinator (me) to arrange a solution to conclude the grading process for the course. The arranged solution was that I would look at the materials that you submitted in Fenix and suggest a grade based on that.

The result of that process is now available in the section "Grading and deliverables", and considers the four elements you submitted in Fenix:

  1. The written report/paper (50%);
  2. The cover letter (10%);
  3. The review report (20%);
  4. The rebuttal (20%).

The proposed grades take into consideration the general guidelines regarding each of these elements, according to the course materials. In particular, I used the following criteria to grade each of the four elements:

  • Written report: Description of contributions in abstract and intro; discussion of related work; methods section; results section; discussion of results; conclusions; adequate choice of title; general quality of the manuscript.
  • Cover letter: Identification of the contributions and target audience; an indication of the adequacy of the submitted article to the chosen venue.
  • Review: Overview of the work; recommendation (supported in terms of novelty, clarity, and technical soundness); strong points; weak points; detailed comments (when relevant).
  • Rebuttal: Indication of how the reviewer's concerns were addressed.
If you have specific questions regarding the grades, please reach out to me through the address fmelo@inesc-id.pt at your earliest convenience. I will submit the grades to the services on Wednesday, May 3.
