General course announcements: 


Next Tuesday, the office hours for Prof. Bruno Martins will start a bit later (i.e., by 9h45, Room 0.09, Floor 0, Pavilhão Informática III, Alameda), before the theoretical lecture. 

On the week of November 4-8, the theoretical lectures scheduled for the SIBD course will not take place, and students are encouraged to use the lecture time to work on the course project. 

Prof. Bruno Martins will also not be available during the office hours scheduled for the week of November 4-8, and an additional period for attending students is instead scheduled for Thursday between 2:30PM and 3:30PM (again on Room 0.09, Floor 0, Pavilhão Informática III, Alameda).

Project announcement:

In the second part of the project, specifically on what regards the relation named "consultation_assistant" given as part of the relational model, you can consider the attribute named "VAT_nurse" as being part of the primary key (or, alternatively, you can consider the schema exactly as given in the project). This change will have an impact on the solution for Query 6 and, in case you opt for this change, do not forget to mention this in the report.

Lectures on the week of October the 14th.

The lab classes on Monday, the 14th of October, and the lecture on Friday the 18th of October, will be dedicated to supporting the development of the course project.


The course instructors will also have their regular office hours during this week.

Be sure to check if your group can submit the project by Friday the 18th. No extensions/exceptions on the deadline will be considered.

Next SIBD lectures

The next SIBD lecture, on Tuesday September the 24th, will focus on advanced aspects for the entity-association model.

Next Friday, September the 27th, there will be no theoretical lecture for the SIBD course. Students are encouraged to use this time to work on the course project, specifically on the part corresponding to entity-relationship modelling.

The lab classes scheduled for Monday the 23rd will provide an introduction to the software to be used in the labs (i.e., MySQL + PHP), and the lab classes scheduled for Monday the 30th of September will cover the entity-relationship model. Students are strongly encouraged to attend both, and students not yet registered in the lab classes should try to attend the labs on larger rooms and with less people enrolled.

The theoretical lectures will resume on Tuesday, October the 1st, with an introduction to the relational model.

First lecture for the SIBD course

The first lecture for the SIBD course will take place on the week of September the 16th.


The lab classes will start on the week after, by September the 23rd.

Registration to the lab classes will start after the first lecture, using the same groups of 3 elements that will be considered for the class projects.

Prior to starting classes, students may consider analyzing the materials from last year's execution of the course, and the suggested bibliography for the course.
