P1 - Robot with a Bluetooth remote control
Development of an application to control a robot, including line following, mark detection, and remote access for communication and control.
The robot to use is a m3pi with a bluetooth module.
The remote access is done using another mbed node containing a joystick, a bluetooth module, and an LCD.
It should also be possible to use a smartphone or laptop for remote communication and control.
P2 - Robot as an Autonomous Vehicle
Development
of an application to control a robot, including line following, mark
detection, obstacle avoidance / distance keeping, and remote communication to deal with crossing sections.
The robot to use is a m3pi with a xbee module (802.15.4).
For crossing sections management, nodes based on MoteIST motes can be used (or other mbed nodes).
P3 - TinyOS based Wireless Sensor Network application
Implementation of a wireless sensor network application using TinyOS and motes MoteIST and/or Micaz.
Sensor integration; Collection and processing of information; Possible actuation (e.g. alarm detection).
P4 - Contiki based Wireless Sensor Network application
Implementation of a wireless sensor network application using Contiki and motes MoteIST and/or Micaz.
Sensor integration; Collection and processing of information; Possible actuation (e.g. alarm detection).
P5 - Opportunistic network
Development of a demonstration application in a opportunistic network scenario.
A mobile node (mbed + xbee module) should be able to interconnect wireless sensor network nodes (based on MoteIST motes).
P6 - Interconnecting mbed nodes with CAN
Implementation and evaluation of a Controller Area Network (CAN).
Development of a demonstration application using "mbed" nodes
interconnected by a CAN network.
Collection and dissemination of sensor information. Highlight CAN characteristics in what concerns real-time and reliability.
P7 - Tagus Tram Sensor Net
Opportunistic network scenario demonstrator using a Contiki based WSN with motes MoteIST and MicaZ, and a Lego Mindstorm robotPn - Other NES...
Students may suggest other projects that interconnect embedded systems: more than 1 node; at least 1 node with sensors/actuators and several activities.
