Welcome to the Project in Marine Renewable Energies course!

This course is designed to give participants a solid understanding of how to take an idea of a marine renewable energy concept (wind, wave, co-location with solar) and turn it into an entire project.

The lecturers have a strong background in the marine renewable energy industry. Professors working at Wavec (https://www.wavec.org/) and DNV (https://www.dnv.com/) provide different perspectives on how to carry out these projects.

The course starts by exploring essential aspects such as costs, project feasibility, environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring, and public policy. Later, you can choose a topic from the field of marine renewable energy (each group is free to choose; in previous years, students have proposed projects on hydrogen production, desalination, wave wind farms, and co-location of wind and solar energy).

Here, you will be able to familiarise yourself with the software for site selection (ArcGis) and the testing of wind turbines (FAST). Depending on your chosen project topic, other software is also available.

Some site visits are planned to help you understand the industry.

The faculty will publish more details on the FENIX website soon.
