Exam in the Special Season

30 junho 2026, 11:37 Joao Manuel de Freitas Xavier

The exam of the special season is scheduled for July 16, at 9h00.

An important note: Not every student is allowed to do the Special Epoch Exam. There are rules. Please contact the administrative office at IST to know if you are allowed to do that exam.  I don’t have any participation in allowing or disallowing students to do the exam; everything is taken care between the student and the administrative office; for example, the student needs to register beforehand for that exam officially in the Fenix system. In conclusion: Please contact the office to know everything you should do, in case you are considering to take that exam.

The rules of the exam are as follows:

a) you must bring an identification card with your name and photo (if you have an IST card, bring it);

b) the room for the exam is V 1.17;

c) the duration of the exam is 2h00;

d) this is a fully closed-book quiz (in Portuguese: "exame sem qualquer consulta");

e) you can bring to the exam only scratch sheets of paper (in Portuguese: "folhas de rascunho"), but which should be completely blank at the beginning (nothing should be written on them before you start the exam);

f) no electronic calculators (of any kind) are allowed;

g) there are 3 multiple-choice questions and 4 open-response questions;

h) you mark your answers to the multiple-choice questions in a box at the top of page 1.  There is no negative score for marking an incorrect choice (an incorrect choice in a problem means zero points as the score on that problem);

i) you write your answers to the open-response questions directly in the pages where the open-response questions are printed (that is, in the pages of the exam that we provide). We will not accept answers written outside these exam pages;

j) the exam is about the contents of all modules (module 1 to 4).

In case you do this exam (in the Special Season), recall that your final grade in the course is exactly the grade in this exam, if you pass the exam (that is, the project and quiz grades do not count for the final grade).

Office hours for the exam are as follows:
- Monday, July 13, 15h00
- Wednesday, July 15, 15h00, at the room 7.12 (7th floor of North Tower),
at the room 7.12 (7th floor of North Tower).

Grades after exam 2

9 fevereiro 2026, 11:01 Joao Manuel de Freitas Xavier

Dear all,

The grades of the exam 2 have been published: see section "Grades", file "grades_after_exam2.pdf"

Your grade in this course is in the first column, titled "Final grade."
(Students who have a blank entry in that column have not passed the course.)

The review session ("revisão de provas" in Portuguese) takes place on Wednesday, Feb 11, 13h30, in room 5.15, 5th floor of North Tower.

Please note the following:

- the review session is not for increasing grades that happen to be close to a nearby integer; it is for detecting whether a question was graded wrongly;
- the review of grades is to be done in the review session and cannot by done by email (except if you are abroad).

Best wishes,
jx
