Experimental and computational methods for the discovery and validation of non-coding RNAs from eukaryotes and prokaryotes were presented and discussed. The strategies used by the BSRG research group in the identification of sRNAs from bacteria of the Burkholderia cepacia complex were presented and discussed.

The RNomics term was introduced and its objectives were defined. The non-coding genes were introduced and the percentages of various genomes that are transcribed and not translated were compared. An overview of known roles of non-coding RNAs was presented. The involvement of miRNAs on Human diseases and their exploitation to design novel drugs was presented and discussed. Non-coding RNAs from plants and bacteria were also discussed. Databases with relevant information and tolls for non-coding RNAs characterization and function prediction were presented.
