Bioinformatic tools for protein structural analysis

24 abril 2020, 13:30 Arsénio do Carmo Sales Mendes Fialho

Databases; Computation of physical and chemical parameters for a given protein; Comparison of 3D protein structures; evaluation of 1D and 3D homologs; structure-based alignments; superimposition of protein structures

RNOmics (aula online)

23 abril 2020, 10:00 Jorge Humberto Gomes Leitão

The coding and non-coding genome concept and the relative percentages of genomes that do not encode for proteins were presented and discussed. The classification of RNAs as coding and non coding was presented. The RNA interference phenomena was presented and discussed, as well as the mechanisms of action of non-coding RNAs in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Techniques used to identify non-coding RNAs were presented, as well as the approaches used for secondary structure prediction and target prediction. Some examples of databaes for non coding RNAs such as the miRNA database were presented, as well as sites with bioinformatics tools for noncoding RNA analysis such as the Vienna package website.

The class was taught using the Zoom software.
