Evaluation Guidelines

Final theoretical lessons consolidated last chapters of the course (Strategy in Action), discussed past contents of the course and enunciated main topics for assessment on 11th April’ Test and on 28th April Exam.

All slides and documentation of the Course are already uploaded in Fenix.

Please consolidate your Group Works Reports to guarantee their delivery by email to me on due time. Your Company Strategic Management report aims to be delivered till 10th of April, 07:00PM (format pdf document).


The Final Test, to be carried out online on 11th of April, 11:00AM is composed of 20 multiple-choice questions (lasts 40m). Each correct answer scores 1 value (10 points). No discount for wrong answers. Please select just one correct option. Otherwise, answer will be annulated.

By submitting the online assessment, you declare on your honor that you will resolve the test not using any consultation, doing it autonomously and without exchanging any information by any means, with any person or information repository, physical or virtual.

You will have access to the Test using Fenix Worksheets. Please be ready 10 minutes before hour..

The Exam will be held online on 28th of April 03:30PM. Same rules.

All students that agreed with me and did not have Group work grade and continuing activity during the period can do both Test and Exam and it will count 100% of the best final grade.

For the students with continuing activity and Group Work grade, the Exam can also be used to upgrade the Final Test Grade and then it will count 50%.

Final Lessons; Conference - Big Challenges for Portuguese Companies

Dear Students

Hope all goes well.
I have already uploaded in fenix all material  in order to give you enough time to study for the final test (11th of April; 11:00AM) and also to provide you very good information to conclude your group work projects (deadline 10th of april).

Please be informed that on 28th of march we will not have classes and this week (20th-24th march) I will finish theoretical lessons presentations.
On 27th of March 11:30 (A3) we will have a special keynote speaker that will share with us his own personal experience dealing with companies and government bodies.
Please be present at this unique session.

Group work teams - New deadline 2nd of March 2023 (07:00PM)

Hope all goes well.

I have already received several group work teams. These groups should start working on the project based on the example of Company strategic report and group work guidelines already uploaded in fenix. Next week (monday; 6th of march) we will analyze your progress.

Other students that did not send to me yet your team composition should integrate ad create quickly a group work team (up to 6/7 members each team), select one of the shifts available (10:00AM or 02:00 PM) and send to me by email (paulo.simoes.caldas@tecnico.ulisboa.pt) the shift selected, the composition of the team, the email contact of the team leader, and the name of the selected company/organization. 
Please notice that students that are enrolled in practical classes in shift 3 (03:30PM) should opt to create/integrate a group on shift 1 (10:00AM) or shift 2 (02:00PM). Usually we do not have enough groups for the 3 shifts. That's the reason why I opted to have only shift 1 and 2 available..

The new and final deadline to deliver to me Group work information is 2nd of March 2023 (07:00PM).

Strategic Management Course - Our new Journey - Be safe. Be productive. Be happy

WELCOME - Lessons and Evaluation Guidelines

Dear students

Hope all is good.

We will start next monday our Course.

The objectives of the Strategic Management discipline and compliance with the program are based on the following fundamental bibliography: Exploring Strategy (2016): Text & Cases by Johnson G., Regner, P., Scholes K., Angwin, D., and Whittington, R., Pearson Education.

The continuing activity during the period is based on theoretical lessons (2 per week – Monday and Tuesday - 1h30 hours each) and practical classes to discuss Group Works. Practical classes will begin on 6th of March.

All slides and documentation, including bibliography, will be uploaded in Fenix on a regular basis.

The evaluation method remains quite simple:

·         Students should integrate a group work team (up to 6 members each team), select one of the shifts available (10:00AM or 02:00 PM) and send to me by email (paulo.simoes.caldas@tecnico.ulisboa.pt) the shift selected, the composition of the team, the email contact of the team leader, and the name of the selected company/organization, till 27th of February 2023.

The goal is to be very autonomous and to conclude a Company Strategic Management report which aims to be delivered at the end of the period (till 10th of April 2023; 07:00PM).

This activity is worth 50% of your final grade.

This Report comprises the 4 dimensions of the program - History and Strategic Purpose of the company- HSP, External Analysis – EA, Internal Analysis – IA and Strategy Formulation – SF.

I will upload in Fenix an excellent example of the expected Company Strategic Management Report and a structure proposal for each part of the work.

·         The Final Test, to be carried out online (11th of April 2023; 11:00AM) will be worth the remaining 50%.
