Final grades
11 julho 2024, 10:47 • Nuno Gonçalo Pereira Mira
Students,
Final announcement!
Final grades for the curricular unit have now been rendered available in the dedicated section of Grades. Concerning projects, you also have available qualitative evaluation of several parameters that were taken into account. I want to assure you that these grades have been carefully thought, accounting all those aspects as well as the challenge that was asked in every project, your own feedback of how the projects were developed inside each group and performance in the discussion with the different players (students and professors).
I am organizing an exam review session, online (HERE) tomorrow at 11:30 am so that we can discuss any aspect that you would like to discuss related with grades or doubts that you may have concerning the lectured topics. Everyone received their reports and written reports of the project with the annotations, please go through those prior asking questions! I explain a lot there already! After this exam review the grades will be final and submitted to IST graduation bureau.
Please don't forget to submit supplementary materials in fenix, in case you haven't done that yet.
Special congrats to the groups whose posters were selected for demonstration! Your job was pointed out by the professors and by the students as of high interest! Further instructions were sent to your emails, with the written reports.
In the end, i want to thank you all for being a nice crowd and hope that in the end you have learned something about microbial cell factories, working in teams, complying with deadlines and handling difficulties. All those are important aspects of your future work life, more than the grade per se.
I wish you the best summer vacations and see u,
Best

Submission of supplemental materials
18 junho 2024, 10:47 • Nuno Gonçalo Pereira Mira
Students,
An email was sent to you all stating that not all groups have submitted their written reports (you can do that now in the section of supplementary materials) as well as pointing out to you that a new section was created in order for the groups to submit whatever they have as supplementary materials file (models, BLAST results, excel sheets, everything you find useful). Zip all the files and submit them so that we may have an easy access to them all.
See u tomorrow,
Final instructions for submission of materials related to projects
13 junho 2024, 13:29 • Nuno Gonçalo Pereira Mira
Students,
The deadline to submit your materials (poster in pdf format + written report) will be next MON, as you already know. I just wanted to point that you don't need to print your poster on Mon since you submit the pdf version of it along with the written report. You just need to bring your poster printed on WED. For that, you can print it in a regular paper format (you don't need to use photographic paper, unless you want to). The quality is lower but cost is considerably lower as well. The selected best posters to be exhibited in the walls of the South Tower until Nov will be printed in photographic paper but the Department will take charge of those costs and I will arrange things, no worries with that.
Remember to be on the central building hall on WED ON TIME (9:45 am) and that we will have a loose discussion about your posters. There will be several other people participating in this discussion, besides myself and professors Emanuel and Pedro. Be relaxed, but sure of what you did and with knowledge of what has been done. I also recall that grades will be set at an individual basis and so even members of the same group may not all have an identical grade pending their contribution to the project and also the discussion of it. After the poster session all students will be asked to answer a specific set of questions, so please be sure that you also take time to circulate around the posters of your colleagues! Enjoy learning what others had also produced, the poster session is also for you and not just for the teachers. You can learn a lot from each other!
See u soon,

Meetings for follow-up of the projects
10 junho 2024, 19:16 • Nuno Gonçalo Pereira Mira
Students,
In order to continue provide support for the execution of your projects/posters i am:
- Adding information about the poster preparation that you may find useful (although most of you already do a very nice job without hints);
- scheduling two other tutorial classes (both on Zoom), one tomorrow at 11 am and the other one on FRI at 11:30 am. These meetings are not mandatory since I think most groups are moving forward with their projects.
See u soon,

Data for the yeast-based fermentations and new deadline for lab4B (UPDATED)
31 maio 2024, 13:31 • Nuno Gonçalo Pereira Mira
Students,
You now have available all the data concerning the HPLC analysis of the fermentations. Pay attention to the following:
a. You should only consider the data concerning the RI results since we are not working with the UV-Vis data;
b. You have to find your samples that can be distributed in the different pdf files that were generated by the software during the analysis. Each group has results concerning 4 time-points and 3 strains which gives a total of 12 samples. Remember that at t=0 there is only glucose available in a total of 300 g/L (the one present in the media).
c. The files are organized for all the groups as wt (wild-type), E1 (mutant 1) and E2 (mutant 2). The strains are organized by increasing number (e.g. if you worked with strains 9 and 15, then E1 is 9 and E2 is 15);
d. You also have available the data concerning the samples for the calibration curves;
e. Since the results are only being published today the deadline for students to deliver part B of the report was moved to next FRI Jun7th. Note that you can always submit your work before that date.
f. I've updated the lab guide (see the section dedicated to lab4B) concerning the suggestions of how to handle the data (as agreed in class).
g. The samples that I measured the weights are also rendered available in the section dedicated to lab4B
See u on MON for the tutorial class,

Today, Mon Jun 3rd, I've updated the data for lab4B with the data that some groups reported to be missing from previous reports. Please make sure you have all your data and if something is missing let me know.
