Final Exam

22 janeiro 2023, 12:08 Hugo Castro Silva

Dear students,

Our final exam is next Wednesday, January 25, in room 0.65. The exam starts at 8:30, and ends at 10:00.

If you want to take the exam, you need to register for it in Fenix, until January 24 12:00.

Some very important reminders:
  • The exam will replace the average grade you got in the tests/MAPs, if better.
  • You cannot take only part of the exam to replace one MAP.
  • To pass the course, you need to score at least 8 points in the exam or in the average of the MAPs.
Regards,
Hugo

Homework II

2 janeiro 2023, 09:48 Hugo Castro Silva

Dear students,

Happy new year!

I have just published the second homework. See section Homework II for the assignment and data sets.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Date for the 2nd MAP/test

27 dezembro 2022, 23:25 Hugo Castro Silva

Dear students,

The second test/MAP will take place January 13 (Friday) from 15h45 to 16h30. The room will be 0.65.

In the last lecture, I advanced the possibility of moving the test to January 10. But after realizing this was not consensual, Prof. António and I decided to keep the original date, and chose an hour where there would be no conflicts with your class schedules.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Hugo

Second part of the course

21 novembro 2022, 13:03 Hugo Castro Silva

Dear students,

I hope you had a nice midterm break and were successful in your examinations.

As you may already know, I will be taking over the Econometrics lectures and labs until the end of the semester. The second part of the course will be dedicated to more advanced approaches, focusing on obtaining estimates of the causal effect.

The topic of causality is a fascinating and important one. It’s a step up in terms of complexity, but I’m sure you will be able to follow, and by the end of the course, you will undoubtedly have a good sense of some of how you can use regression to get causal answers to your research questions.

I have uploaded the slides for chapter 6 (Causality), which we will cover in tomorrow’s lecture. You will also find the slides for chapter 7 (binary dependent variable models) on the course’s webpage. We will not go through this chapter in the lectures, although you will have a lab where you will learn the practical aspects of this sort of analysis.

To ensure all lab shifts are at the same pace, and due to inconvenient calendars, there will be no labs tomorrow (Tuesday, 22/11). Friday’s shift will be dedicated to chapter 7. I will upload the lab materials in due time.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you tomorrow.

Regards,

Hugo
