Gonçalo Marques, who has just finished his Master's degree at IST on procedurally generated personalised content in games, and works at ZPX Interactive, is the co-autor of an Unreal Engine 4 book for beginners. I asked Gonçalo to talk a bit about it:
"Since my first year as a Técnico student, I have dedicated myself to game development, using Unreal Engine 4 as my game engine of choice. However, at the time there weren't many resources to learn how to use the Unreal Engine with C ++, most of which were made with Blueprints (the visual scripting language of Unreal Engine 4) and the few resources I found regarding C ++ were like gold nuggets scattered over the internet.
About a year ago, I was contacted by Packt to participate as co-writer in a practical book on Unreal Engine 4. The book was made for beginners who want to learn how to use Unreal Engine 4, with a focus on C ++ and not on Blueprints. The reader's only requirements to follow the book completely are basic knowledge of C ++ (functions, variables, classes, polymorphism, etc.).
All 4 authors work professionally in the gaming industry as programmers and, together, we made a book that covers a wide variety of topics and tools in Unreal Engine 4, all accompanied with detailed step-by-step exercises so that nothing escapes you!
If you are interested in buying the book, you can find it here (print and e-book):
