Course Assessment

- By Continuous Assessment

  • Laboratory Work (30% of final mark): Laboratory execution, written report with an individual oral discussion (in groups of three students). Attendance at all laboratory sessions is compulsory; failure to attend will result in no marks being awarded for this component.
  • 12 MAP5 Quizzes (10% of final mark): The average mark of the best 8 of all MAP5 quizzes taken will contribute to this portion of the mark. These quizzes are designed to assess understanding of lecture content, consisting of straightforward multiple-choice questions. Each quiz lasts 5 minutes. Lecture materials will be provided in advance to facilitate preparation.
  • 2 MAP45 Assignments (60% of final mark, 30% for each assignment): Two main assignments of 45 minutes each, which are scheduled for 05/03/2024 and 27/03/2024. A minimum overall mark of 8 out of 20 is required to pass.
  • The Final Mark (FM) for the course via continuous assessment will be calculated as:
FM  = 0.3 x LAB + 0.1 x MAP5 + 0.3 x MAP45(1) +  0.3 x  MAP45(2)

- By Final Exam

  • Recovery Exam (70% of final mark): An opportunity for reassessment is available at the end of Period 3, on 11/04/2023. The passing threshold for this exam is also set at 8 out of 20. The Recovery exam is structurally composed of two MAP45 assignments.
  • The Final Mark (FM) for the course via final exam will be calculated as:
FM = 0.3 x  LAB + 0.7 x  Recovery  Exam
  • To pass the subject or improve the final mark, students have the option to undertake just one or both MAP45 assignments on the specified exam date
