CST Microwave is a high-perforrmance software tool for the analysis, design and optimization of 3D electromagnetic structures.

The group is granted access to a licensed version of CST, owned by my research group at Instituto de Telecomunicações. Details will be given at the kick-off meeting.

You will receive credentials for two workstations:

- The VPN workstation
- The CST workstation

Check the network configuration here

First:
- You have to install a VPN in your PC according to the provided guidelines. You can download the installer here (Microsoft only).
- Then, login in at the VPN server using the provided credentials

NOTE: A common mistake in the VPN configuration is that groups miss the verification of the final format of the VPN server URL, which is composed automatically by Forticlient. It should be:

https://lxvpn.lx.it.pt:10443/cst
If it is not in this form, you can do it manually.

- Run the Remote Desktop application in your PC and login to the CST workstation at 193.136.223.7 using the corresponding credentials

(only one user of the group can access at each time)

Each group has a dedicated folder in the CST workstation:

  D:\\Students\\AP\\2025-26\UserX

    where X = UserA for G1
                  = UserB for G2  ...

- You will receive by e-mail a basic, already made, CST model for your specific project.
This is intended to reduce the time needed to start working, but you may have to modify it later.

But it will not be useful at all without understanding CST basics. Watch Prof. Carlos Fernandes' CST video tutorial. You should also check the videos under tab "CST tutorials"
(if you try to fly an airplane but didn't learn the basics, you will crash for sure :)

- Copy the model file to your designated folder in the CST workstation, and double click to run it on CST

- When leaving the workstation, do not forget to disconnect your session (logout, not shut down)

- In mail exchanges, always use the [AP] label and the Group numberAlways include all group members in copy

Do not

- Work outside the provided folder

- Waste computation time with unnecessary analysis because it is a shared resource and therefore it will reflect on CPU availability for others;

- Accumulate excessive datafiles in the disk. CST easily generates GBytes of files for each simulation.

- Install any applications or alien files, because there have been severe penalties already from the Software Developers, when unlicensed software in used in our Workstations
