23 janeiro 2025, 00:09 Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins

The final programme of the AECD workshop for project presentations can be checked online.

We followed as closely as possible the preferences of students, with minor adjustments.

The workshop will take place in person at IST, in room V0.09, by January the 23rd and starting by 9:40AM with the first presentation.

Zoom presentations will use the following link: https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/94851468408

Workshop for project presentations - Time slots for presentations

20 janeiro 2025, 06:55 Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins

The final report, the code/data, and the presentation of the AECD project has to be uploaded to Fenix by 20 Jan 2025, 23:59.

Instead of creating an entire programme from scratch (which may not fit your constraints), we decided to adopt a self-organized programme for the workshop in which projects are going to be presented. To this end, we created an editable spreadsheet where you should add your name(s) and project title, in your preferred slot

Afterwards, we will assemble a final programme following as closely as possible your preferences. Naturally, your project advisors are most welcome to stop by, although this is not mandatory. Students must be physically present to present their work, but the tutors can also join remotely, e.g. using a ZOOM link setup by the students.

The discussions will take place in person at IST, in room V0.09, by January the 23rd and starting by 9AM.

Erasmus students or projects with confidentiality issues can do the presentation by January the 24th 2024, remotely through ZOOM and using the following link.

In the shared document, yellow cells correspond to slots open to every student of the course. Pink slots are reserved for discussions where only group members, professors of the course, and advisors can be present. If your work does not involve privacy issues or delicate information from your host institution, please go for the yellow slots. Otherwise, please select one of the pink slots.

The title of your talk may differ from the title of your report. Please feel free to adapt it to make it more appealing. Regarding your presentation, please note that the goal is to be entertaining. Each talk should take 10 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for questions from the audience.

AECD Project Selections -- Meeting on September 3rd -- 10:30 AM -- Room V1.07

29 agosto 2024, 00:24 Mário Gaspar da Silva

In this year's MECD Welcome Session, we will introduce the AECD course organization and organize a discussion of project ideas with students and faculty the get-together/lunch hour.

The Welcome Session will take place on the 3rd of September, at 10:30 AM, in Room V1.07.

A list of project project/problem options, together with the corresponding contacts within the companies/institutions, has been published. You should analyse the different options, choose a project of your preference, and negotiate with the companies the assignment of the projects.
Recall that the projects are envisioned for groups of 2 students.

Students should also indicate, in a shared document, which project that they are going to pursue. This indication should only be made after the project attribution has been agreed with the receiving institution, and access to the shared document requires authentication on the IST Google Cloud.

We strongly encourage students to start working on the projects as soon as possible.

The deadlines for the project are as follows:

Project Selection: October 4, 2024
Submission of Report/Code/Slides on Fenix: January 20, 2025
Course Workshop for Final Project Presentations: January 23 and 24, 2025

Welcome to the course on Applications of Data Science and Engineering 2024/2025!

2 agosto 2024, 15:40 Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins

Dear students,

Welcome to the course on Applications of Data Science and Engineering 2024/2025!

In this course, students will work in groups two on a small project/problem related to data science, ideally proposed by a non-academic partner or academic partner from another scientific area (e.g. biology, medicine, social sciences, or another engineering area).

The amount of work is approximately one day/week for a semester, but, of course, time can be allocated differently. We will collect and post several project/problem options, but you're also invited to independently find a host and supervisor that better fits your interests. Of course, we will be always available to help you with this quest.

Students can start working on the challenge proposed whenever they reach an agreement with the proponents, and after approval from the course coordinators. Grading is based on a small report and an oral presentation.

In the meantime, please let us know if we can be of further help.
