Clarification about the project delivery and the project workshop
13 janeiro 2023, 18:26 • Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins
We detected a problem with the fact that contradictory information was published in what regards the delivery date for the project report.
The kick-off meeting mentioned the date of February 6th for the project delivery, and a tentative date of February the 13th for the workshop. In turn, the course webpage was mentioning the date of February 17th for the project delivery, with the workshop taking place at a latter date.
Having the workshop at a latter date would not be possible, according to the official IST calendar for the 1st semester.
We have published a registration form where students can select specific slots for their presentation on February the 17th. After selecting a slot, we recommend that students should also invite their company advisors to attend the presentation at the selected time slot.

Choosing between the project proposals
30 setembro 2022, 18:51 • Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins
Dear students,
A list of project project/problem options, together with the corresponding contacts within the companies/institutions, has been published on the course webpage.
You should now analyse the different options, choose a project of your preference, and negociate with the companies the assignment of the projects.
Until the deadline of 14 October 2022 students should, indicate in a shared document, which is the project that they are going to pursue.
We strongly encourage students to start working on the projects as soon as possible.
Do contact us in case you need additional help and/or instructions.
Welcome to the course on Applications of Data Science and Engineering 2022/2023!
17 setembro 2022, 15:55 • Bruno Emanuel Da Graça Martins
Dear students,
Welcome to the course on Applications of Data Science and Engineering 2022/2023!
In this course, each student or group of two students will work on a small project/problem related to data science, ideally proposed by a non-academic partner or academic partner from another scientific area (e.g. biology, medicine, social sciences, or another engineering area).
The amount of work is approximately one day/week for a semester, but, of course, time can be allocated differently. We will collect and post several project/problem options, but you're also invited to independently find a host and supervisor that better fits your interests. Of course, we will be always available to help you with this quest.
Students can start working on the challenge proposed whenever they reach an agreement with the proponents, and after approval from the course coordinators. Grading is based on a small report and an oral presentation.
In the meantime, please let us know if we can be of further help.
