{en_GB=The Influence of Microstructure on the Mechanical Behaviour of Commercially Pure Aluminium} {} EVALUATED

{pt=A produção de microcomponentes carece da preparação prévia das matérias-primas, nomeadamente da microestrutura, para permitir ultrapassar limitações associadas aos efeitos de escala. Para tal, amostras de alumínio AA 1050 A foram sujeitas a uma operação de deformação plástica conhecida como Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). O projeto e fabrico da ferramenta de ECAP foi uma das partes principais deste estudo. O ECAP foi utilizado para deformar o material até extensões efetivas acumuladas de ε ∼ 8 o que fez endurecer significativamente o material. Foram aplicados diferentes protocolos durante esta operação de modo a obter amostras de material com diferentes microestruturas e graus de encruamento. Por fim, testes de compressão em condições quasi-estáticas e dinâmicas foram realizados em máquinas de ensaios diferentes com o objetivo de avaliar a resistência mecânica após o processo, consoante a velocidade de deformação pretendida. Observou-se que a microestrutura desenvolvida depende dos parâmetros e do protocolo utilizado no ECAP, influenciando o comportamento mecânico do material. Os resultados mostram ainda que o comportamento mecânico é sensível à velocidade de deformação, promovendo o valor da tensão de escoamento. Por último, o alumínio processado por ECAP seguido de recristalização da microestrutura mostrou uma relação não-linear da evolução tensão de cedência com a dureza do material., en=The production of micro-components requires previous preparation of the raw material, specially at the microstructure level, so that limitations due to size effects can be overcome. For this reason, aluminium AA 1050 A billets underwent a process of plastic deformation known as Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). The design and manufacturing of the ECAP tool was one of the main objectives of this research. This operation can deform the material up to a maximum accumulated equivalent strain of ε ∼ 8, which makes the aluminium billets to be significantly hardened. Different protocols were applied in order to obtain samples with different microstructures and plastic strain. Compression tests in both quasi-static and dynamic conditions were done. The tests were carried out in two testing machines, according to the strain rate intended, to assess the mechanical behaviour of the specimens after the hardening process. It was observed that microstructure depends on the parameters and protocols used with ECAP, influencing the mechanical behaviour of the material. The results also demonstrated that the mechanical resistance is sensible to the strain rate, promoting the flow stress. Lastly, it was verified that the aluminium samples that were highly strained by ECAP performed with a rotational protocol exhibit an isotropic behaviour, even though, after being annealed, they were anisotropic. Lastly, it was observed a non-linear relation between yield strength and hardness for specimens processed by ECAP followed by a recrystallization of the microstructure.}
