A atual dissertação surgiu da necessidade de ajudar a Auchan Retail Portugal a melhorar um processo operacional crítico - o tratamento de ruturas (produtos em falta na prateleira). Uma parte significativa das ruturas deve-se a dificuldades de reposição, ou seja, embora os produtos estejam tecnicamente presentes na loja, não conseguem ser repostos nas prateleiras. A realidade demonstrou que as equipas operacionais gastam um tempo elevado à procura destes produtos no armazém de loja (backroom), uma atividade sem valor acrescentado, que é consequência da falta de conhecimento da sua localização. Assim, o objetivo desta dissertação é criar uma solução que permita às equipas localizar os produtos desejados com elevada precisão no backroom. A metodologia selecionada integra diversos módulos. Para o efeito, foram fundamentais várias etapas preliminares: preparação inicial do armazém, benchmarking e análise de ineficiências. Os resultados destes módulos tiveram impacto no desenvolvimento da solução e respetiva implementação. Os resultados da solução criada indicam uma melhoria de 65% no tempo de procura no armazém pelas equipas operacionais. Além disso, no que diz respeito ao número de ruturas originadas devido à falta de reposição, os resultados mostraram uma redução de 37% . Este artigo preenche uma carência na literatura ao considerar a ligação relevante entre as operações do armazém e o respetivo controlo da localização do inventário e o seu impacto na disponibilidade de produto nas prateleiras das lojas de retalho alimentar., en=The improvement of retail stores’ backroom operations is considered an important issue for retailers. The present dissertation arose from the need to assist Auchan Retail Portugal in improving a critical operational process - the treatment of out-of-stock (OOS) products (products missing on the shelf). A significant amount of the out-of-stock is due to difficulties in replenishment, meaning that although the products are technically present in the store, they are unable to be restocked on the shelves. The reality demonstrated that operational teams spend significant time searching for these products in the backroom, a non-added-value activity, which is a consequence of the lack of knowledge of the products' location.Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to create a solution that enables teams to locate Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) with high accuracy in the backroom. The selected methodology integrates diverse modules. Several initial steps were crucial for this purpose: preliminary backroom preparations, benchmarking, and analysis of inefficiencies. The outcomes of these modules have impacted the development of the solution and the respective implementation. The results of the created solution indicate an improvement of 65% in the search time in the backroom by the operational teams. Additionally, concerning the number of out-of-stocks originated due to the lack of replenishment, the results showed a 37% reduction. This paper fills a gap by considering the relevant connection between backroom operations and respective inventory location control and how it impacts the on-shelf availability in food retail stores.}
