{en_GB=Development of antennas for the cubesat NANOSTAR project (Moon Flyby)} {} EVALUATED

{pt=A forma e peso padronizados dos Cubesats permitem que estes tenham menos custos de produção, transporte, lançamento e depleção no espaço. Um Cubesat 6U foi escolhido para completar uma missão de sobrevoo lunar no projeto NANOSTAR, o objetivo principal desta missão é captar dados científicos na forma de fotografias. Esta tese concentra-se numa missão secundária, que envolverá o mapeamento da superfície da lua fazendo estudos de altimetria com técnicas de radar. Para completar esta missão secundária, duas antenas de baixo custo, completamente metálicas do tipo reflect-array, que operam na banda Ku e que possam ser inseridas num Cubesat 6U foram projetadas. O uso de metal apenas, permite que esta antena seja compatível com outras missões de órbita terrestre. O primeiro reflect-array consiste num array de células unitárias slot-type com stubs que foram adaptados de um modelo existente. Este modelo não tinha uma banda de fase completa de 360º, para compensar esta desvantagem, foram feitas modificações no projeto da célula para obter uma banda de fase melhor. Usando este tipo de célula, um reflect-array com dimensões de 216 por 168 mm^2 foi criado e simulado. Os resultados medidos mostram um ganho máximo de 24,5 dB at 14 GHz. Numa tentativa de melhorar o ganho realizado do reflect-array, e estudar o efeito no desempenho das transições de fase abruptas, uma nova célula do estilo Phoenix é apresentada e um ganho de 25,34 dB foi obtido. Tendo em conta os custos de fabricação, as células slot-type foram escolhidas para cumprir a missão secundária., en=The standardized shape, size, and weight of Cubesats allows for low costs in production, transporting, launching, and deploying into space. A 6U Cubesat is chosen to complete a moon flyby mission in the NANOSTAR project. The main objective for the mission is to retrieve science data in the form of lunar surface photographs. This thesis focuses on a secondary mission, that will involve mapping of the moon surface using radar-based altimeter studies. The thesis addresses the design of low-cost metal-only reflect-array antenna, operating in the Ku band, that can be flown with the 6U cubesat The use of metal makes the design of the antenna compatible with other Earth orbit missions. A reflect-array of slot-type unit cells with stubs that were adapted from an existing model and modifications to the unit cell design were made in order to achieve a full 360 degree range. Using this cell and creating a reflect-array with dimensions of 216 mm by 168 mm, measured results show a maximum gain of 24.5 dB at 14 GHz. To improve the realized gain of the reflect-array and to study if the sharp phase transitions affected the reflect-array performance a so-called phoenix-type cell solution is presented and a gain of 25.34 dB was obtained. Even though an improvement was made with the phoenix cells, due to high costs in the manufacturing process, the slot-type cells were chosen for the secondary mission since the cost of production would be many times cheaper.}
