{pt_PT=Arquitectura Popular ou Vernácula? O Caso da Serra da Estrela} {} EVALUATED

Detalhes: {pt=A segunda metade do século XX foi palco de enormes transformações. A agricultura perdeu para as indústrias e serviços o papel de principal ocupação das populações, o que, associado às novas formas de construir e habitar, alterou profundamente a paisagem das cidades, vilas e aldeias. As novas construções, como a casa do emigrante, tomaram conta da paisagem rural, alterando a imagem das povoações e tornando a arquitectura popular na sua forma tradicional progressivamente menos expressiva. Os exemplos que chegaram aos dias de hoje estão, na sua maioria, profundamente alterados ou em ruína. Esta arquitectura caracteriza-se pela sua adaptação ao meio e uso de materiais e técnicas locais, bem como a sua frugalidade e funcionalidade, razões pelas quais as suas lições são tão relevantes para uma arquitectura moderna enraizada e sustentável. Assim, torna-se cada vez mais premente estudar a arquitectura popular, bem como as suas expressões vernáculas. Nesse contexto, este trabalho procura identificar as características da arquitectura popular da Serra da Estrela e perceber se existe, neste território, um “vernáculo”. Procede-se ao estudo do meio, fazendo a caracterização da Serra, e ao estudo dos conceitos teóricos de popular, erudito e vernáculo, bem como da forma como se tematizou o “popular” desde o início do século XX. Utiliza-se a Arquitectura Popular em Portugal para comparar o popular ainda hoje existente na Serra da Estrela com a restante região beirã, o que permite aplicar aqueles conceitos na prática, bem como dissertar sobre como o estudo do objeto in loco altera a perceção pré-existente., en=Throughout the second half of the 20th century, agriculture lost its place as the populations’ main occupation to industries and services, which, adding to the new ways of building and inhabiting, caused profound changes to the landscape of cities, towns, and villages. New constructions, such as the emigrant's house, took over the rural landscape, changing villages’ visual identity and making traditional popular architecture less expressive. Most of the examples that have made it to the present day are either deeply transformed or in ruins. Popular architecture is characterized by the frugal and functional way it adapts to its surroundings, using local materials and techniques, which is why its lessons are so important for a rooted and sustainable modern architecture. Thus, it becomes increasingly crucial to study popular architecture and its vernacular expressions. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to analyze the popular architecture in Serra da Estrela, aiming to identify if it can be considered vernacular. To do so, the mountain range is characterized, and the theoretical concepts of popular, erudite, and vernacular are defined, as well as the way in which the popular expressions of architecture have been studied since the beginning of the 20th century. Arquitectura Popular em Portugal is used to compare the popular architecture of the Beira region with the examples that can still be found in Serra da Estrela, which allows not only the practical use of the concepts, but also the understanding of how the fieldwork may change the preexisting perception.}
