Seminar - Imaging the earth with marine Ultra High Resolution Seismic Reflection methods (UHRS)

Next Friday, 24rd March, at 11.00h, a seminar entitled “Imaging the earth with marine Ultra High Resolution Seismic Reflection methods (UHRS)” will be presented by Henrique Duarte, Geosurveys.

Venue: Room V1.08, Civil Building, IST - Alameda 


Henrique Duarte holds a Ph.D in Geodynamics and is currently the director of the Marine Department of Geosurveys, Consultants in Geophysics. He pursued research in subjects such as gas in sedimentary basins, seismic and sequence stratigraphy, structural geology, 2D and 3D sparker seismic processing. His consultancy activities for the last 8 years were mainly in the fields of marine geophysics applied to geotechnical problems for offshore windfarm development, well site surveying, bridge building, cable and pipe laying, land reclaiming etc. Roles taken include offshore equipment operation, data quality control, offshore survey management and client representation.

Next Thursday, 23rd March, at 11.00h, a seminar entitled “Oil & Gas – Business, Engineering & Trading” will be presented by Manuel Pungo, Deputy Field Operations Manager & Head of Technical Support at  Total E&P Angola.

 Venue: Room QA1.1, South Tower, IST - Alameda 


Manuel Augusto Jose Pungo graduated in Mechanical Engineering at IST, in Lisbon – Portugal, and was awarded a merit scholarship from Technical University of Lisbon in 1999. He further achieved a Business Management Diploma from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen – United Kingdom. He has over 14 years of experience in the upstream Oil & Gas industry, within shallow water, deep and ultra deep offshore domains. Manuel Pungo has engineering, green and brown field developments and operation background, having worked in several countries such as Angola, South Korea, France, Nigeria, Indonesia, Argentina, Congo, Gabon, etc. While working in Angola, he lectured at the university and taught different subjects including but not limited to Production Management, Structural Analysis and Applied Thermodynamics. He wasalso technical advisor and consultant for the Angolan water supply Company (EPAL)

Presently, as Operation and Installation Manager at TOTAL E&P Angola, Manuel is responsible for the GIRASSOL field which accounts for almost 200.000 barrels of oil per day and over 850 people onboard.

Next Friday, March 18, at 11:00am the seminar " Integrating oil spill models in risk management and emergency response activities" will be held, presented by Mr. Rodrigo Fernandes, Action Modulers

Rodrigo Fernandes holds a degree in Environmental Engineering and has a master's degree in environmental modeling. He is currently developing his PhD in Environmental Engineering. He has participated in several research and development activities related to water pollution, dispersion modeling of oil and chemical spills, operational modeling systems and downstreaming services. Rodrigo is a key person in the development of the oil dispersion and chemical modules in the MOHID Modeling System. He is the author of 10 revised articles, 4 book chapters, and more than 20 articles in conferences. Currently he works on the Research and Development Unit of the “Action Modulers” Company.

Next Wednesday, March 15, at 11:30am the seminar "Electrochemical techniques for non-destructive corrosion monitoring in OIL & GAS industry" will be held, presented by Dr. Maros Halama, vice-president of Slovak Association for Surface Treatment (SSPÚ)

Venue: Room QA2.03, South Tower, IST - Alameda 


Dr. Maroš Halama is vice-president of Slovak Association for Surface Treatment (SSPÚ) and member of the European Committee for Surface Treatment. He has coordinated several research projects on corrosion and nanotechnology and industrial inquiries on non-invasive detection of corrosion in gas pipelines. He has participated on three EU-structural funded projects and is co-author of one patent on the preparation of iron nanoparticles by electrochemical separation. He is member of American Chemical Society (Industrial & Engineering division). He was awarded with the International Association of Advanced Materials Scientist Medal for the year 2016. He is head of Corrosion testing laboratory at National Research Centre for advanced materials and technologies “Promatech” of Slovak Academy of Science.

Next Friday, March 10, at 11:00am the seminar "O&G Industry Outlook - Oil crisis or new standard" will be held, presented by Mr. João Antunes, Galp.

Venue: Room V1.08, Civil Building, IST - Alameda 


João Antunes is a Performance Focused Drilling Engineer, with 11 years of experience at the upstream sector of the O&G Industry. He is currently working as a Senior Drilling Engineer at the D&C Function, in the Development and Production Area of Galp E&P. He holds a Degree in Mining Engineering, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering and he is currently a candidate for a Global Energy Executive MBA at Haskayne SoB, in Calgary, Canada. His D&C international experience reaches several regions, such as, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Malaysia, Mozambique, Norway and Iran, among others. He is an Expert D&C Software trainer and enjoys coaching young engineers.
