Técnico Lisboa in Portugal and Bar-Ilan University in Israel jointly established a Double Degree Programme in Brain and Data Science. Brain and data science research is at the frontier of knowledge bridging areas as diverse as biomedicine, philosophy, engineering, robotics and computer science.

Programme students will have the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research and contribute to the advancement of human knowledge at a time we witness impressive and unprecedented advances.

In this new academic project, Técnico students will spend a year at each of the universities in Portugal and Israel. By the end of this Programme, graduates will receive two degrees, one from each university.

Enrollment, Financial Support and Certification

Students involved in this Double Degree Programme must be enrolled in the Master of Biomedical Engineering (MEBiom).

After their registry in the Master Degree (September), they must contact the current coordinator and inform him of their intention to join the Programme.

The application is formally completed in January of the first academic year, for a mobility in the second academic year (NMCI).

The first year is spent at the respective home institution (Técnico for Portuguese students and Bar-Ilan University for Israeli students) and the second year will be spent in the host institution (Bar-Ilan for the Portuguese students and Técnico for the Israeli students).

Diplomas will be awarded by both institutions to students who successfully complete the two years of Masters.

Under this agreement, students can also apply for scholarships offered by either the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center (link) or by the Embassy of Israel in Portugal (link).

Academic Curricula Structure

On their first year, Técnico students will be committed to attend and develop their expertise in the following topics:

  • common-core curriculum courses:
    1. Computational Biology,
    2. Biomechanics of Movements,
    3. Tissue Engineering,
