DEHUMIDIFICATION THROUGH A BIOCLIMATIC ENVELOPE EVALUATED
This master thesis introduces an alternative dehumidification solution for hot and humid climates, a bioclimatic system implemented within the building envelope. The system proposed is a ‘low tech’ representation of the mechanical liquid desiccant dehumidification technology. This master thesis is the first experimental research approach on the proposed design solution. In this body of work, the research focus is on a particular section of the proposed system, namely that of the desiccant fluid spaces. The objective of this work is to examine the geometry of the section in detail, and to identify the main weaknesses of such a simplistic design solution. Discussion is made on how the identified drawbacks can be eliminated at a design development level, without the inclusion of mechanical components, and/or without the use of electrical energy. Finally, guidelines for future research are provided which will help in developing a design that will, eventually, lead at the production of an efficient bioclimatic dehumidification system for hot and humid climates.
