Seminar: ”Basin & Petroleum Systems Modeling in Hydrocarbon Exploration”
9 maio 2016, 11:40 • Elisa do Nascimento Pires Costa
Next Wednesday, May 11th, at 16h00, the seminar ”Basin & Petroleum Systems Modeling in Hydrocarbon Exploration”, will be presented by Mr. João Casacão.
Venue: Room V1.25, Civil Engineering Building, IST - Alameda Campus.
João Casacão graduated in Geology, Post-Graduated in Petroleum Geoscience and holds a Master’s degree by the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon in Geology – Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Paleontology. After graduation he worked 3 years as an engineering geologist in two Portuguese companies before obtaining a scholarship from the Centre of Geophysics of Évora, in 2013.
He was part of the University of Lisbon team for the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award competition, in 2014. In 2014-2015 he was part of the Executive Committee that reinstated the AAPG Student Chapter of the University of Lisbon, responsible for organizing some activities within the Petroleum Geology scope, and was one representative for the Europe Student Chapters on the AAPG Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Before joining Galp Energia in 2015, he did an internship at Partex Oil & Gas. The project was to re-evaluate the petroleum potential of the Porto Basin (offshore Portugal), in which the main tasks were related to seismic interpretation, stratigraphical and structural evolution, define petroleum systems and conduct thermal modeling scenarios to evaluate the regional maturity potential.
In Galp E&P he is currently working as a Petroleum Systems Analyst in the Geosolutions – Basin Modeling team, by helping to evaluate projects mostly at a regional-scale, as well as assisting in-house research projects within the Geosolutions team.
